Abdallah Mosque

Abdallah Mosque (Mezquita Abdallah) in Havana holds an important place in the story of Islam in Cuba. Opened in 2015, it is widely recognized as the country’s first full mosque and represents a major milestone in the public visibility and institutional growth of Muslim life on the island.

A historic milestone

For many years, Muslims in Cuba gathered in homes, informal spaces, and smaller prayer rooms. The opening of Mezquita Abdallah marked a turning point by providing a dedicated place for congregational worship in Havana. More than a physical structure, the mosque became a visible symbol of the growth of the Muslim community in Cuba.

Located in Old Havana

Situated in the historic center of Havana, Mezquita Abdallah stands within one of the city’s most culturally significant areas. Its location reflects the intersection of faith, heritage, and public life, making it an important landmark for Muslims and visitors alike.

Why it matters

Mezquita Abdallah represents a new chapter in the history of Islam in Cuba. It offers a permanent space for worship, strengthens community life, and stands as one of the clearest public signs of a growing Muslim presence on the island.
